West fulfils nine-month-old promise to reward snappers with free Yeezys
Kanye West has given away free trainers to paparazzi photographers.
In November 2015, West had promised to reward paparazzi with free pairs of his Adidas Yeezy trainers. He told a photographer asking about the trainers: “One day, I’m going to be able to give you all Yeezys. Next year. Next year is the paps’ Yeezys year.”
And West duly delivered on his promise before the start of his ‘Saint Pablo’ tour, giving out a box of the £150 trainers to lucky photographers, according to TMZ.
West’s generosity contrasts with his past scuffles with photographers. In 2013, he escaped charges after trying to grab a camera from a paparazzo who asked the rapper: “How come you’re such a nice guy these days?”
At the time, West regularly had scuffles with photographers who waited for him at Los Angeles’ LAX Airport.
The free trainers for photographers isn’t the first time West has given away Yeezys. He vowed on Twitter before ‘The Life Of Pablo’ was released that he’d give away trainers to anyone who could work out what its ‘TLOP’ initials stood for. He eventually had to send out just over 100 pairs to lucky guessers.
West’s tour began in Indianapolis last night (August 25). It runs for 37 more gigs in North America, ending on November 1 at Los Angeles Forum. There are as yet no scheduled shows in the UK or anywhere else outside the US and Canada.
