Ben Carson, the Republican Presidential candidate Kanye West described as “the most brilliant guy”, has said that he’d be willing to accept the rapper as a presidential candidate in the future.
West announced his intention to run for President in the 2020 election while accepting a prize at this year’s MTV VMAs. Just this week he repeated his intention, telling Vanity Fair that he is “definitely” still running for President in 2020 though he is against the idea of a traditional election where candidates face off against one another.
Speaking to host Martha Raddatz on ABC’s This Week, Carson acknowledged West’s praise of him and confirmed that they have spoken to one another. The Republican candidate acknowledged West’s “business acumen” and said that he’s “certainly be willing to give him a chance” in the 2020 election.
“I did have an opportunity to talk with him,” Carson told Raddatz. “I was extremely impressed with his business acumen. He knows a lot about business. And, you know, I talked to him about the possibility of him and maybe himself and some of the other people in the pop culture doing some music that might be uplifting, that might give young women a sense of their value and young men a sense of responsibility. I think it could be a tremendous thing in our society.”
Asked if he believes West would be a good President, Carson added: “Well, I’m certainly willing to give him a chance. We’ll see. He’ll be able to explain things and see if he resonates with the people.”
West spocce about his radical ideas for electroal reform in the Vanity Fair interview. “When I run for president, I’d prefer not to run against someone,” he said. “I would be like ‘I want to work with you.’I think all the people running right now have something that each of the others needs. But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together.”
In a recent interview with NME, Rihanna revealed that she is waiting for West to be free so she can finish recording her new album with him. Similarly, Justin Bieber has said that he too is working with West on new music that boasts a “New York vibe.”
