Hillary and Bill Clinton's daughter discusses the rapper's alleged Presidential bid
Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Hillary and Bill Clinton, has spoken about Kanye West‘s recent claims that he will run for the US Presidency in 2020.
The rapper launched his alleged bid to be President during his acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last month (August 30). West said at the time, “It’s not about me. It’s about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could’ve guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for President.”
Now, Chelsea Clinton has described the news as “awesome” in a new interview with MTV.
“Who runs for office is really important,” Clinton said. “And even if [West] just saying that helps spark a little boy or a little girl who was watching the VMAs to think, ‘Oh wow, maybe I should do that,’ that’s awesome.”
Quizzed on whether the rapper will actually go through with his claims, Clinton replied, “You’d have to ask him”. Asked whether she would vote for West, Chelsea added, “I think it depends on who he’d be running against,” alluding to her mother Hillary’s current campaign to be President.

Taylor Swift recently suggested that she would be open to be West’s Vice President. Swift, who presented West with the Video Vanguard award at the MTV VMAs, revealed on Twitter that West had sent her flowers following the event, writing in a caption, “Awww Kanye sent me the coolest flowers!! #KanTay2020 #BFFs”. See the tweet below.
Following the news of West running for President, Donald Trump told Rolling Stone, “He’s actually a different kind of person than people think. He’s a nice guy. I hope to run against him someday.”
Trump continued, “He’s said very nice things about me in the past… extremely positive things. I was actually watching, I saw [his speech] and I said, ‘That’s very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea?'”
Rihanna has also backed West in his run for office. The singer told Entertainment Tonight, “People are voting for [Donald] Trump; who wouldn’t vote for Kanye? I’m really, really elated with his speech. His speech was incredible.”
A representative from the White House responded to the news too. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told Billboard that he looks “forward to seeing what slogan [Kanye] chooses to embroider on his campaign hat”.
