Some London fans have been in line for 15 hours
Kanye West fans around the world have been queuing for hours on Friday (August 19) to get into one of the rapper’s temporary pop-up shops.
The rapper has launched merchandise stores in 21 cities around the world, including London, Berlin and Cape Town, to sell merchandise relating to his current album ‘The Life Of Pablo’. They will run all weekend.
The stores are selling ‘Pablo’-themed printed T-shirts, denim jackets and hoodies designed by West and his design associate Cali Thornhill DeWitt.
The London store, which is situated in the Old Street/Shoreditch area, opened at 10am local and has seen fans queuing around the block. Watch the video below and see pictures of said queue.
Carlos Rico, a Kanye fan from Essex, told Press Association that he had been queuing for 15 hours. “I’m a big Kanye West fan and a big fan of fashion. So Kanye West and fashion in London? You’ve just got to go,” he said.
Rico added: “I wanted to be at the front of the queue to make sure I get my stuff. I just love his music and everything he stands for. Kanye is like Marmite, you love him or you hate him.”
Fans in other cities have been braving lengthy queues to gain entry to West’s stores too. See in the tweets beneath.
West’s New York pop-up store in March managed to generate $2m (£1.5m) in sales.
The ‘Pablo’ stores follow similar pop-up shops for West’s 2013 album ‘Yeezus’ and his joint Jay-Z album ‘Watch The Throne’ in 2011.
