Twitter users campaigning for Kanye West to play Super Bowl halftime show

Both Adele and the NFL have confirmed she will not perform as previously rumoured

Twitter users have begun campaigning for Kanye West to play the Super Bowl halftime show.

It was rumoured Adele was in talks with the NFL to perform at the next event in February 2017. She has claimed to have turned the gig down, while the NFL say they never even asked her.

West’s fans think they know who should take the spot instead. The hashtag #KanyeWestForSuperBowl51 has been gathering steam on Twitter today (August 15), as Idolator reports.

In a statement denying asking Adele to perform, the NFL and match sponsors Pepsi said: “We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston, and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”

Coldplay were joined by Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson for their performance in February, while the 2017 event will take place on February 5.

Previous Super Bowl shows have come from Katy Perry in 2015, preceded by Bruno Mars, The Black-Eyed Peas, Madonna and The Who.
