"I'm nothing if I can't be me," rapper reportedly told his wife
Bruce Jenner has revealed that Kanye West helped convince his stepdaughter Kim Kardashian to accept his transition from male to female.
Jenner’s emotional interview with Diane Sawyer was broadcast on US TV last night (April 24) and saw him open up about his life and confirm that he is transitioning to female, aged 65.
During the two-hour interview Jenner revealed that Kim Kardashian has been the most open of his children and that her husband Kanye West had convinced her to accept his journey.
Jenner said that West had told his wife, “I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am; I can have the most beautiful little daughter in the world, and I have that; but I’m nothing if I can’t be me, if I can’t be true to myself,” as way of making her see how important the transition was to him.
Elton John is among the musicians who have offered their support to former Olympian Jenner following his interview. Speaking ahead of the interview, John pledged his support to Jenner, stating: “It’s an incredibly brave thing to do, especially when you’re older. I admire him for doing it and I support him 100 per cent.”
Other musicians including Lady Gaga and Angel Haze also gave public support to Jenner following his interview.
Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, posted a photo of her and Jenner on Instagram along with a message of support. “Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself,” she wrote. “Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter.”
