Kanye West resumes ‘Yeezus’ tour in Philadelphia

A series of dates were cancelled after a road accident destroyed stage equipment

Kanye West‘s ‘Yeezus’ tour resumed in Philadelphia last night (November 16).

The rapper was forced to pull a series of dates on the tour after a truck carrying a 60-foot circular LED screen and custom-made video truss crashed on October 30, destroying the stage equipment.

Taking to the stage for the first time since October 28 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, the lavish stage show included troupes of actors, fireworks and an exploding mountain. Rolling Stone reports that during an extended version of ‘Runaway’, West delivered a sermon about his own struggles and his perception of himself.

“Anybody that’s a fan [of me] is a fan of themselves,” he said. “Anybody that’s a fan can do anything!”

He then moved on to criticise radio programmers. “They don’t want you to be you,” he said. Addressing the criticism he’s come under recently for his art, he added:”If a slave got too strong, and he was talking too loud. They’d say . . . We’re gonna put this slave in front of a crowd and whip his ass until ‘What now?!'”

West’s ‘Yeezus’ tour began in Seattle, Washington on October 19. The stage at the 17,500-capacity Key Arena was partly covered by a giant mountain from which West delivered several raps. At one point, West was joined onstage by a Jesus Christ lookalike, and for several tracks he was accompanied by a troupe of backing dancers. West’s first solo tour in five years, it will now run until December 23, taking in shows across North America.
