The track – which features on West’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ album – made headlines upon its release with the lyric: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous”. The line refer to the infamous incident when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
West initially claimed that he had asked for Taylor’s approval of the lyric before releasing the track and that she gave her blessing. Swift later denied this and appeared to subtly refer to West’s lyrics during her acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards in February, saying: “I want to say to all the young women out there [that] there are going to be people along the way who are going to try and undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”
West later unveiled a controversial video for ‘Famous’, which features wax figures of naked celebrities laying in bed. Included in the video’s roll call are Swift, West, Kim Kardashian, Amber Rose, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Caitlyn Jenner, Bill Cosby, Donald Trump, George W Bush, Anna Wintour and Ray J.
A teaser for this week’s episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians shows Kim Kardashian accusing Swift’s reaction as “just another way to play the victim. It definitely got her a lot of attention the first time.”
Kardashian continues in the clip, “Kanye, you know, definitely hurt her years ago when he did that, but like it wasn’t meant to be personal. It could have been anyone.”
“I just don’t think that he should be punished for it still to this day,” she adds. “I feel like I’ve had it with people blatantly treating my husband a certain way and making him look a certain way.”
“Kanye is always so honest and speaks his mind. When we were first dating, everyone would talk shit about me and he always had my back. At this point, I really don’t give a fuck so I’ll do whatever to protect my husband.”
The episode airs this Sunday (July 17) on E!.
