Concert promoters AEG Live have been given by a warning by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after misleadingly marketing a Kanye West concert as a “one-off”.
In a publicity email, AEG promoted the rapper’s performance at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on February 24 as a “one-off gig”. However, another two dates at the venue were then scheduled for February 23 and March 1 in order to meet high demand.
“Because two more concert dates were added which gave consumers further opportunities to buy tickets… and those dates were announced only two days after the ad was sent out originally, we concluded the claim that Kanye West would perform a ‘one-off’ concert in the UK had not been substantiated and was misleading,” the ASA concluded.
The ASA acknowledged that AEG had no plans to add extra dates at the time West’s gig was marketed as a “one-off”, the BBC reports. However, the concert promoters have now been told not to label gigs “one-off” if there’s potential for extra shows to be added.
Meanwhile, West’s latest album ‘Yeezus’ entered the Official UK Albums Chart at Number One on Sunday (June 23). The rapper and his partner Kim Kardashian have recently welcomed their first child, baby daughter North West.
