Kanye West bans media from Paris fashion show

Rapper didn't want negative press for new female clothing line

Kanye West banned the media from attending his Paris fashion show earlier this week (March 6), according to reports.

The rapper unveiled his new DW Kanye West women’s clothing line in France but, according to New York Times fashion writer Eric Wilson, refused to allow critics to attend in case they responded negatively to the collection.

According to Wilson, West – whose first clothing line, released last autumn, received poor feedback from fashion critics – had initially agreed to allow the media to see a preview of the show but later changed his mind. He said:

I don’t know about this. I got treated unfairly by the press last time. Why would I want to do this?

When it was argued that allowing a media preview would give West the chance to explain his creative vision, meanwhile, he reportedly responded: “No. If they don’t understand it, they don’t understand it.”

Earlier this week (March 5), Kanye West and Jay-Z added two more shows to their summer UK tour. The pair, who are touring their joint album ‘Watch The Throne’, have added new dates in Birmingham and Sheffield to their UK run.

The pair only released their debut album as ‘The Throne’ last year, but Jay-Z has previously hinted that the second release from his and West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ project will be released this year.

He said of he and West’s future plans: “We – I say ‘we’ because I’m in Throne mode – we’re in a great place creatively. You might see a Jay, then Kanye and a Throne album next year… We’ve really found our zone.”

Kanye West/Jay-Z will play:

London O2 Arena (May 18, 19, 20, 21, 22)
Manchester Evening News Arena (June 11, 12)
Birmingham’s LG Arena (13, 22)
Sheffield Motorpoint Arena (21)
