Kanye West kicks off Austin City Limits

Rapper headlines first night in Texas with 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' finale

Kanye West headlined the first night of Austin City Limits festival on Friday (September 16), wrapping up the ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ tour in spectacular style.

Playing a similar show to the one debuted at Coachella earlier this year, West’s set featured a crane, three costume changes and a troupe of dancers.

Amid rumours of guest appearances by Jay-Z and Rick Ross, West performed with just his three-piece band, running through a hit-heavy set in just under two hours.

There was time for some of West’s trademark rants, however, including warning the audience of media conspiracies. “They got all this fake ass media mind control. You don’t believe that shit”, he said.

After performing ‘All Of The Lights’, ‘Heartless’, ‘Jesus Walks’, ‘Golddigger’ and ‘Run This Town’, he announced the show would be the last time fans saw the ‘…Dark Fantasy’ show. West will soon embark on a ‘Watch The Throne’ tour with Jay-Z.

“This is the last night of this show,” West said. “This is the last night … there will be new times, but we gotta remember these times before we’re … runaway.”

He finished up saying: “Thank you, Austin, for letting me go over my time.”

Coldplay also performed on Friday evening, while Arcade Fire, Elbow and Fleet Foxes were among the line-up.
