Kanye West reveals details of 40-minute film for new single ‘Runaway’

The video is about a phoenix who falls to Earth and becomes the rapper's girlfriend

Kanye West has revealed details of a 40-minute film he is working on for his next single ‘Runaway’.

Filmed in Prague last month, the video is based on the life of the mythical phoenix, which West admits relates to his own career.

“It’s the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth and I make her my girlfriend,” he told NYMag.com. “And people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world. I’ve been feeling the idea of the phoenix. It’s been in my heart for a while.”

He added: “It’s maybe parallel to my career. I threw a Molotov cocktail on my career last year, in a way, and I had to come back as a better person.”

As previously reported, West performed the song at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards on Monday (September 13), which saw the rapper and producer return to the ceremony after he invaded the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech last year.

Kanye West’s as-yet-untitled new album – which originally had the working title ‘Good Ass Job’ – will be released in November.
