Kanye West to headline new New York festival

The Meadows will take place in Queens in October

Kanye West is set to headline a new music festival in New York.

The Meadows is being hosted by the team behind Governors Ball and will take place at Citi Field in the Queens borough of the city between October 1-2.

The Weeknd, Chance The Rapper, Grimes, The 1975, Savages and more will also feature at the two-day event.

In a statement, Tom Russell from promoters Founders Entertainment said: “Launching the Meadows Festival in Queens this fall with an incredible lineup of music, art, food and culture is a dream come true.”

He continued: “As a native New Yorker I grew up in awe of the innovative spirit surrounding Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. With this event we can shine a spotlight once again on this iconic neighborhood and bring with it the economic benefits, strong community partnerships and local hiring for which Founders Entertainment is known.”

West was due to headline the final night of Governors Ball 2016 earlier this month, but the festival’s last leg was cancelled on the day due to severe weather.

The rapper then tried to rearrange his set for a 2am performance at New York’s Webster Hall, but the show had to be shut down after thousands of fans flocked to the intimate East Village venue.
