Spike Jonze explains why Kanye West removed his film

'Kanye posted up an uncompleted version,' says director

Spike Jonze has explained why Kanye West recently removed the film they made together from his blog.

The rapper who posted ‘We Were Once A Fairytale’ on his website only to take it down without explanation, had without realising posted an uncompleted version of the film.

“I think he was like, ‘Oh, it’s out. I’ll link to it’,” Jonze said in an interview with The New York Times. “This is the first time it’s happened to me and it is a weird feeling, like, ‘Wait a second – I wasn’t ready to put that out!'”

The director, who has previously worked with West on his video to 2007 single ‘Flashing Lights‘, admitted that he felt uncomfortable by the leak but there was nothing he could do about it once it had been posted.

“‘That’s mine!’ Uh, no. I guess it’s not mine anymore,” Jonze added.

The short 14-minute film – ‘We Were Once A Fairytale’ – is due to be given a full release on iTunes on October 27.
