Kanye West invited Alton Sterling’s son backstage after his L.A. gig this week

West and his wife Kim Kardashian met with Sterling’s eldest son, Cameron Sterling, on his 16th birthday

Kanye West invited the oldest son of Alton Sterling backstage after his gig in L.A. this week.

West, who is currently touring the US in support of this year’s ‘The Life of Pablo’ album, will complete a three-night stint at the L.A. Forum tonight.

On the rapper’s first night at the Forum on Tuesday (November 1), West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, met with Cameron Sterling backstage. Cameron is the oldest son of Alton Sterling, who was fatally shot by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on July 5 after they interrogated him while selling CDs outside of a shop. West responded to the controversial killing shortly after by posting a link on his Twitter account to a video that showed police pinning Sterling to the ground before the fatal shots were fired.

As Mashable reports, the lawyer for the Sterling family, Justin Bamberg, posted a picture of West, Sterling and Kardashian backstage at the Forum, thanking the couple in his accompanying caption. See the picture below.

Many prominent names in music responded to the killing of Sterling back in July. Drake said that Sterling’s death had left him feeling “disheartened, emotional and truly scared”, writing in an open letter that “it’s impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago.”
