The rapper singled out the controversial figure on his Twitter feed
Kanye West has met with right-wing pundit Candace Owens following recent controversy surrounding his praise for her.
Last week saw West praise Owens on his Twitter feed. On April 21, the rapper stirred up controversy by praising right-wing pundit Candace Owens.
The communications director of non-profit organisation of Turning Point USA, Owens shut down a Black Lives Matter protest at one of the group’s events on Friday (April 20), and has said she believes there is an “ideological civil war” within the African-American community.
West sparked outrage from his followers when he tweeted: “I love the way Candace Owens thinks.” Many hit back at the musician, with one fan replying: “Hugely disappointing. You can do so much better.” Another said: “So, by becoming Republican all of the social issues plaguing me and my community will magically go away?”
Owens responded to West’s tweet, saying she was “freaking out” and asking the rapper to “take a meeting” with her. “I tell every single person that everything that I have been inspired to do was written in your music,” she said. “I am my own biggest fan, because you made it okay. I need you to help wake up the black community.”
Now TMZ reports that the pair met up on Sunday (April 29), with West allegedly hoping figures like Owens will “allow people to recapture freedom of thought”. Fellow right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk was also present. See a photo from the meeting below.
Last week (April 22), West also shared his thoughts on his Tesla car with his followers, writing: “I really love my Tesla. I’m in the future. Thank you Elon.”
In a series of follow-up tweets about his Tesla Model S P100D – an electric car – he said he had “heard these are really good for the environment” and called it “the funnest car I’ve ever driven”. He wrapped his thoughts on the vehicle by tweeting: “I’m super chaaaaaarged. Bout to take this whole thing to Mars.”
Meanwhile, West has also announced the release dates for five albums since returning to Twitter. He has told fans to expect records from him, Nas, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, and his collaboration with Kid Cudi before the end of June.
