Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno handed number 10 shirt by Genoa – watch

Guitarist honoured by Italian football club before game with Sampdoria

Serge Pizzorno of Kasabian was Genoa’s guest of honour as they took on Sampdoria this past weekend.

The local derby took place at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, Genoa’s stadium, and was attended by the guitarist who has family ties with the area. A video, which you can see below, shows Pizzorno step out onto the pitch to a heroes welcome after being given the club’s Number 10 shirt with his name on the back. The match ended 1-1 and left Genoa struggling at the bottom of Serie A with the club finding themselves 19th in the league with five games left to play.

Pizzorno is no stranger to football, having had trials with Nottingham Forest before starting Kasabian. Best known for his skill and technique, the guitarist scored a wonder goal when playing in a televised charity match against a team of celebrities and football legends in 2012.

Meanwhile, Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan recently spoke about the band’s work on their next studio album. the singer confirmed that they have started work on their fifth studio LP and said: “It’s like The Prodigy’s dirty remix thing. It’s cool and it’s got really heavy drums – it sounds electrocuted.” Kasabian released their fourth studio album ‘Velociraptor!’ in September last year. They are set to headline Hard Rock Calling on June 29, with support from The Cribs, Paul Weller, Miles Kane, Klaxons, Tribes and Kodaline.
