Katy Perry has been accused of plagiarism by a group of Christian rappers
The St Louis based hip-hoppers – Flame aka Marcus Gray, Chike Ojukwu and also Lecrae Moore and Emanuel Lamber – have filed a suit, alleging that Perry has lifted her track ‘Dark Horse’ from their 2007 song ‘Joyful Noise’. The Guardian reports that the rappers have said that their song has been “irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in Dark Horse”.
The alleged similarity was first pointed out to the rappers by Flame’s DJ, Cho’zyn Boy. He told Rapzilla: “What listeners are hearing is Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’ at 66 beats per minute and they’re hearing Flame’s ‘Joyful Noise’ at 76 beats per minute. When they’re separated, they seem a bit different, but when you bring them to the same tempo and you just change her pitch down one octave, they’re identical… When things are that similar, it’s hard to dispute.”
Katy Perry recently said that she will write a song for Hilary Clinton if she bids to become the next President of the United States. Perry made her offer public while sharing a picture of herself with Clinton, who is tipped make a bid to take over from Barack Obama in 2016. The pair met at a signing for Clinton’s new book Hard Choices, which offers readers an insight into her four spent years as America’s 67th Secretary of State.
Katy Perry has also just launched her own record label. Metamorphosis Music is a joint venture with the ‘Roar’ singer’s label Capitol Records, which has released her three albums to date.
