Ke$ha has told fans that she was “forced” to sing the lyrics to her recent single, ‘Die Young’.
Following yesterday’s news that the song has been pulled from a number of radio stations in North America after last week’s shooting at a primary school in Newtown, Connecticut, the popstar tweeted of the track’s lyrics:
I understand. I had my very own issue with ‘Die Young’ for this reason… I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.
“I’m so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. Words cannot express.”
TMZ has reported that on Friday last week – the day of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 26 dead – Ke$ha’s single reached 167 million listeners across the United States via radio airplay.
However, on Saturday this dropped by three million and then by 19 million yesterday (December 17), showing that radio stations were no longer including the track on their playlists.
