Kelis to release new album ‘Food’ in April 2014

The follow-up to 2010's 'Flesh Tone' has been produced by TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek

Kelis is set to release her new album, ‘Food’, on April 28, 2014.

The R’n’B singer has signed to UK based experimental label Ninja Tune for the release. Pitchfork reports that a press release for the LP calls it “a soul record that’s as raw and alternative as it is classic.”

It was previously reported that Kelis would be releasing the album this September, following the debut of the track ‘Jerk Ribs’. The follow-up to 2010’s ‘Flesh Tone’ has been produced by TV On The Radio‘s Dave Sitek, who also worked on Beady Eye‘s forthcoming second album, ‘BE’.

Last year Kelis premiered the song ‘Distance’, which was produced by Magnetic Man’s Skream. It is not known if this will feature on her sixth album. Kelis spoke to NME at last summer’s Isle Of Wight Festival and opened up about her progress in writing her new album, saying she was “midway” through the project. She explained: “I’m sort of midway I guess. It’s exciting though, it’s more electro, it’s a little deeper and darker.”
