Kendrick Lamar confirms Dr Dre is working on the follow-up to ‘Good Kid, MAAD City’

Lamar's third album is set for release this autumn

Kendrick Lamar has confirmed that Dr Dre will be working on his new album.

Dre, who executive produced the US rapper’s 2012 album ‘Good Kid, MAAD City’, is returning for Lamar’s third studio LP. “Dr Dre is focused like he always been. He focused on music, man,” commented Lamar to KUBE 93 – via Rap Up.

“One thing about Dre, you can’t take the music away. No matter how much money he has, he’s always gonna be right there in that studio,” added Lamar of Dre’s recently signed $3 million Beats deal with Apple. “That’s before the deal, after the deal. He’s always locked in there. That’s something that I know personally.”

In the interview Lamar also commented on Dr Dre’s long awaited ‘Detox’ record, saying he didn’t know when it would be released. “I couldn’t give you that word. He’ll have to give you that word, but I know that he’s still a creative genius in there,” he said.

The follow-up to Kendrick’s Grammy-nominated debut ‘Good Kid, MAAD City, is due this September, according to the head of his record label. Earlier this year Anthony Tiffith – CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment – revealed in an interview with Billboard that the US rapper’s follow-up to 2012 album ‘Good Kid, MAAD City’ is due later this year.

Tiffith also confirmed plans to release a full album by Black Hippy, the group comprising Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. Kendrick Lamar released his debut album ‘Section.80’ in 2011.
