Kendrick Lamar says no hard feelings, ‘Macklemore deserved Grammy wins’

Rapper left awards ceremony empty handed on Sunday (January 26)

Kendrick Lamar has said that Macklemore deserved to win four Grammy Awards.

Macklemore had previously described his quadruple Grammy Awards win as “a blessing and a curse” after taking home the prize for Best New Artist at the ceremony on Sunday night (January 26) as well as winning Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

Macklemore beat favourite Kendrick Lamar to the rap prizes and later apologised to him via text during the ceremony.

However, in a new interview with XXL, Lamar says that his rival deserved the prizes. “It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go,” said the rapper.

Lamar went on to put forward his argument that any success for hip-hop is good for him. “We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”

Meanwhile, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will perform live at Marlay Park in Rathfarnham, Ireland on June 10. They will be joined by Ellie Goulding on the bill with tickets available from Saturday, February 1 at 10am.
