The producer has been playing the rapper's 'unheard' verse on 'Eyes Above' during recent live shows
A portion of a previously unreleased Kendrick Lamar and Flying Lotus collaboration has surfaced online.
The pair collaborated on Flying Lotus’ new album ‘You’re Dead!’, on a track called ‘Never Catch Me’, but also worked on another track together, however, Lamar’s verse on ‘Eyes Above’ didn’t make the final LP due to “political reasons”. However, Flying Lotus has been playing the song live on his current tour, complete with the Lamar verse. Click above to listen.
Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar recently revealed that his 10-year-old brother and de facto A&R has the only available copy of his upcoming album. In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid on The Whoolywood Shuffle, Lamar was asked about the long-awaited new record. “Is it in a vault, who has a copy so I can check it out?” Whoo Kid asked.
The rapper replied: “A copy? You gonna have to go through my little brother.” When everyone thought he was joking, Lamar changed his tone to convey his seriousness, adding: “He’s 10 years old. No, real talk. He has it. He has the album and he told me what he likes… That’s my A&R right there. He has a sophisticated ear. He’s in somebody’s elementary [school] right now knowing all the lyrics. Telling ’em, Watch.”
The ‘Good Kid, Maad City’ follow-up is set for release before the end of the year. Earlier this month, Lamar revealed the official video for ‘i’, which is the first release to be taken from the forthcoming album.
Lamar will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live tomorrow (November 15), with Woody Harrelson set to host the episode of the US variety show.
