GET YOUR KENICKIES ON THE TELLY

Blimey, pop stars with TV shows...have your say...

LAUREN LAVERNE, ex of KENICKIE, could be getting into bed with UK’s Channel Four as she is on the shortlist to present Channel 4’s Big Breakfast when DENISE VAN OUTEN leaves at Christmas.

Lauren told NME that she had been deluged with offers of television work since Kenickie split, but refused to be drawn on whether or not she had been made an offer by The Big Breakfast.

“I really don’t think I should say anything yet” she said, refusing to say any more.

But sources in TV have confirmed she is a contender , along with the likes of MTV‘s JENNY MCCARTHY, Hollyoaks actress DAVINIA TAYLOR plus models SOPHIE DAHL and MELINDA MESSENGER.

Lauren said she had not made up her mind about any of the offers. She continued: “It’s all proper telly stuff. The thing is, I just don’t know if I want to be famous or not.”

Her new band, CHRIS, meanwhile, features Lauren on bass, her brother and former Kenickie guitarist JOHNNY X (aka PETE) plus JOHN DOWNFALL, who DJed on the last Kenickie tour and was previously in DWEEB. They play their first gig at a theatre in Prague in the new year. Lauren explained: “We started the idea of it before Kenickie split. We’ve been recording and writing but we haven’t really done anything yet. We’re just knocking around with it at the moment.” Of the sound, she said: “It’s really bass-driven and snarling. We did some stuff a while ago and it came out sounding like cock rock, which wasn’t what we were expecting. It sounded like ‘Sabotage’ by the Beastie Boys,” she said.

Meanwhile, fellow ex-Kenickie colleagues EMMY-KATE MONTROSE and MARIE DU SANTIAGO have formed a new band and are launching their own club night, Shimmy, which kicks off on December 3 at London Soho Clinic.
