The Game says Kesha is being treated ‘like a slave’ over her contract – watch

Rapper calls on Dr Luke and Sony to 'let her do her thing'

The Game has backed Kesha’s legal battle with Sony and Dr Luke.

The rapper equated both parties to treating the singer like a slave. In October 2014, the pop star filed a lawsuit against her long-time producer Dr Luke for “mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault”, and was looking to be freed from her contract with him.

But earlier this month she lost her legal bid to be released from her contract with Sony.

“Let her off the label, man,” The Game ranted to TMZ, in a clip you can watch below. “Let her do her thing, man. I don’t understand music and the slave mentality. If the artist is not happy, man, you should let the artist do her thing.”

When reminded that she is under contract with the label, he responded: “Fuck that contract,” before adding: “You know what a contract is? A piece of paper that I signed when I was dumb and illiterate to the music business, and then you figure it out, you get smart, you get aware, and you realize you signed some bullshit.”

Kesha’s attorney Mark Geragos also recently compared the singer being tied to her recording contract to slavery, writing in the court papers: “Plaintiff seeks reversal of the Order on the following grounds. First, the Court erred in basing its decision on its finding that Kesha could record without interference from Gottwald.”

The singer returned to the stage with a surprise appearance at Coachella festival at the weekend. She joined Zedd during his set to sing the DJ/producer’s song ‘True Colors’. Kesha did not speak while on stage.
