Video footage has emerged showing Kesha swearing under oath in 2011 that producer Dr Luke never made “sexual advances” to her, despite recently accusing her former mentor of rape.
A representarive for the singer has since claimed that she had been coerced into lying during the testimony.
As reported, Kesha has accused Dr Luke of drugging and raping her a decade ago. Last week (February 19), she was denied an exit from her recording contract with the producer by the New York Supreme Court.
The newly-surfaced video relates to lawsuit from music management company DAS Communications, who claimed that Kesha severed ties with them in 2008 following pressure from Dr Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald). The company seeking $14million (£10m) from Kesha and $12million (£8.6m) from Dr Luke. The case was eventually settled out of court.
Footage from the testimony, posted online by TMZ (scroll below to watch), Kesha categorically denied that she had an “intimate relationship” with Gottwald and said “Dr Luke never made sexual advances towards me”.
“I don’t know what my mother told David [Sonenberg, Kesha’s former manager],” she added. Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, also denies the claims in the clip.
However, Kesha’s lawyer Mark Geragos has responded, saying that Dr Luke had “threatened to destroy Kesha’s life and the lives of her family if she didn’t cover up his sexual assaults in a 2011 deposition”.
The full statement reads: “Luke’s latest legal manoeuvre comes as no surprise; it’s a desperate Hail Mary and a pathetic attempt to once again blame his victim. He threatened to destroy Kesha’s life and the lives of her family if she didn’t cover up his sexual assaults in a 2011 deposition; Luke is now following through on his threats. Unfortunately protecting abusers out of fear happens all too often with battered women. This case is about Luke’s physical, emotional and psychological abuse of Kesha and her fight to get him out of her life. After being driven to the brink of death and into rehab, she’s no longer going to allow herself to wither away at the hands of her abuser as he tries to blame the victim.”
Dr Luke has repeatedly denied the accusations of rape and released a statement via his lawyer on Monday (February 22). “I didn’t rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her,” he added on Twitter, claiming that Kesha’s lawsuit is “motivated by money”.
Earlier this week musicians Jack Antonoff and Zedd, volunteered to record music with Kesha that she could then leak online behind the back of Sony.
Since the ruling was made, #FreeKesha has been trending on Twitter with some of the biggest female musicians in the world joining in. Girls creator Lena Dunham said the court case made her feel “actually sick”.
