A memorial fund has been set up in the memory of late singer-songwriter KIRSTY MacCOLL, which will help develop young musicians in CUBA.
The fund, entitled the ‘Music Fund For Cuba’ will provide instruments and other musical equipment for children in Cuba. Prior to her death, MacColl visited the country on numerous occasions, and South America was an influence on her last album ‘Tropical Brainstorm’.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the fund should write a cheque payable to Music Fund For Cuba to: Major Minor Management, 99c Talbot Road, London, W11 2AT.
As revealed yesterday on NME.COM, a memorial service for MacColl will take place in London later this month.
The ceremony will take place at St Martin’s In The Fields in Trafalgar Square from 11am on January 20. An e-mail sent to the official Kirsty MacColl mailing list said that “all are welcome to pay their respects” to MacColl.
MacColl was killed in a boating accident while on holiday last month in Mexico. She was hit by a speedboat while diving with her teenage sons. The driver of the speedboat has since been released on bail while an investigation into the death is completed.
