Man arrested for attacking Kiss bassist Gene Simmons’ official website

Kevin George Poe faces 15 years in prison if convicted of conspiracy and unauthorised impairment of a protected computer

A man has been arrested after attacking Kiss bassist Gene Simmons‘ official website.

Kevin George Poe, 24, was arrested yesterday (December 13) in Connecticut and ordered to appear in court in Los Angeles. A date has yet to be set for his appearance.

Poe is accused of being part of the hacking group Anonymous and using a computer program to bombard his website for five days in October 2010 with tens of thousands of electronic requests.

He is charged with conspiracy and unauthorised impairment of a protected computer and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted, reports The Washington Post.

According to the indictment, Poe used a favorite software tool of the Anonymous collective – a Low Orbit Ion Cannon – to send vast numbers of requests over a network in an attempt to overwhelm a target computer.

Anonymous has previously been linked to attacks on the websites of the PlayStation store, MasterCard, Visa and the Church of Scientology.

Simmons was recently accused of being a sex addict, by his former bandmate Ace Frehley.
