Frontman working on his own material under J Devil moniker
Korn‘s Jonathan Davis will release a new solo EP later this year.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the frontman revealed that he had been working on material under his J Devil moniker, which he uses to DJ “electro and heavy dubstep” music, and would put out the as-yet-untitled record in 2012.
Speaking about the differences between his individual project and his work with Korn, he said: “I love DJing and I love rocking out. It’s fun going from DJing electro and heavy dubstep to Korn. It’s therapy for me.
He went on to add:
I’ve been working on my EP. I got a studio on the bus. I write every night.
Davis also discussed the influence that DJ and producer Skrillex would have on the album, after he teamed up with Korn to work on their last studio LP ‘The Path Of Totality’. He said: “I love what he does, [but] I think the only influence I took was mashing up different kinds of genres of music.”
“It doesn’t really sound anything like him. I’ve had a chance to work with all the best guys in the business and it taught me a lot. I like to come up with my own style, so I’m getting respect from lots of people.”
Korn are set to play a five-date tour of the UK later this month, starting with a show at London O2 Brixton Academy on March 25 and finishing up with a gig at Bristol O2 Academy on April 3.
Korn will play:
London O2 Academy Brixton (March 25)
Birmingham O2 Academy (26)
Manchester Academy (28)
Glasgow O2 Academy (29)
Bristol O2 Academy (April 3)
