Ms Minogue marks her live return by talking exclusively to NME.COM about how she feels like Dolly Parton...
KYLIE MINOGUE kicked off her first UK tour in years at GLASGOW’s CLYDE AUDITORIUM on Saturday night with new material, countless costume changes and a pole-dancing frenzy based around OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN’s ‘PHYSICAL’.
Speaking to NME.COM shortly after the show, Kylie grinned: “The audience was great – it’s like I said onstage, it was like being at a football match or something with everyone going, ‘Whoooh! Wheeeyy!’ all the time. It’s a long tour, but there’s one date down now…”
Regarding the dangerous combination of high heels and high staircases, Kylie told us: “I felt like Dolly Parton! A stunt Dolly Parton!” Kylie’s stuntwoman talents were put to the test at the beginning of the show when she descended from the ceiling onto the ‘Loveboat’-themed stage set atop an enormous sequinned anchor.
The new track ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ – a Kraftwerk-style dance thumper – was given its live premiere, while one of the show’s more spectacular set-pieces involved an enormous frame being wheeled onstage by semi-naked men for a spot of pole dancing from Kylie and her four female dancers.
Though upset that her planned first night in Dublin had been cancelled due to poor weather conditions, Kylie told her Glasgow audience: “That means you are our first – and I will get to each and every one of you.” The tour continues in Glasgow tonight (March 5), before heading off around the country.
