La Roux battles throat troubles to triumph at T In The Park

Plus she includes a Rolling Stones cover in her set

La Roux overcame a sore throat to lead mass singalongs on the opening night of T In The Park at her evening slot in the King Tut’s Wah Wah Tent tonight (July 9).

Opening with album track ‘Tigerlily’, the singer entered wearing a long silver cape, performing on an elaborate art-deco themed stage adorned with gold palm trees.

Pausing after ‘I’m Not Your Toy’, which was greeted by a mass singalong from the crowd, Elly Jackson said: “I’m really sorry, I’d just like to explain that I’ve got a bit of a sore throat today. But I’m doing the best I can, if you just bear with me.”

The crowd responded with a roar of support as she moved on to ‘Quicksand’, followed by her electro cover of The Rolling Stones‘Under My Thumb’, shortly to be released on her ‘Sidetracked’ compilation.

“I’m not usually a fan of covers,” Jackson explained, “but I had a lot of fun with this one when I was on holiday at Christmas… I hope you enjoy it.”

The biggest singalongs were reserved for the closing double-whammy of ‘In For The Kill’ and ‘Bulletproof’, Jackson recruiting the healthy throats of the crowd for the latter’s chorus.

La Roux played:

‘Tigerlily’
‘I’m Not Your Toy’
‘Quicksand’
‘Under My Thumb’
‘Growing Pains’
‘Colourless Colour’
‘Fascination’
‘In For The Kill’
‘Bulletproof’
