Lady Gaga to play Cilla Black in new film about Dionne Warwick

Warwick says she regarded Black as her 'nemesis'

Lady Gaga is reportedly set to portray late singer/TV presenter Cilla Black in a new film.

Black, whose early singing career saw her championed by The Beatles, passed away in August 2015 at the age of 72.

BBC News now reports that Gaga’s role was announced at Cannes Film Festival on Friday (May 13). Warwick herself made the announcement of the film, which will focus on her life and career.

Warwick and Black had a notable rivalry during their early careers. Black covered Warwick’s ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ just a month after its original release, with her version charting higher than the original in the UK.

Speaking at Cannes, Warwick said she regarded Black as her nemesis “because she stole my music”.
