Lady Gaga wants to do a full album with Tony Bennett

Crooner says she wants to follow up to their duet on his 'Duets II' LP

Tony Bennett has said that Lady Gaga wants to record a full album with him, after their cover of the track ‘The Lady Is A Tramp’ on his ‘Duets II’ album.

Speaking to Metro, the legendary crooner, known for standards such as ‘I Left My Heart In San Francisco’, said he had been in contact with Gaga’s parents:

She’s a very talented person. I was with her parents recently and they said she’d like to make an album with me. I’d like to do that, too. I’m looking forward to it.

Released in 2011, ‘Duets II’ also featured the late Amy Winehouse, alongside names including Michael Bublé and Aretha Franklin. His duet with Winehouse – a cover of 1930s track ‘Body And Soul’ – was released on September 14, on what would have been the singer’s 28th birthday.

Asked who he was most impressed with when recording ‘Duets II’, he said: “Amy Winehouse was a great singer and I also liked working with Lady Gaga but they all impressed me.” Speaking about Winehouse, he added:

She was the most talented singer. She really knew how to sing – she was spontaneous and creative. I couldn’t believe it when, a month after we recorded together, my son told me she had died. I wanted to tell her to slow down because she was so good but I never had the opportunity.

Tony Bennett’s tour will start at Birmingham Symphony Hall on June 24.
