Lady Gaga gets David Bowie tattoo ahead of Grammys tribute performance

US pop star has iconic 'Aladdin Sane' image inked onto her side

Lady Gaga shared videos of her receiving her latest tattoo, a David Bowie image on her left side.

Gaga shared a series of Snapchat videos with fans last night (February 13). Her 18th tattoo is of Bowie on the ‘Aladdin Sane’ cover and comes complete with the iconic flash across his face and a star in one of his pupils. The tattoo was done by Mark Mahoney at Shamrock Social Club in West Hollywood. She captioned one of the videos: ‘This was the image that changed my life.’

Gaga will perform perform a tribute to David Bowie at The Grammys this year. Gaga was already booked to appear at the ceremony, which takes place on Monday night, prior to Bowie’s death and organisers approached her with the idea of performing a medley of his hits soon after.

Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich told the New York Times that as an artist clearly influenced by Bowie, Lady Gaga made sense as the artist they would turn to to honour the late star.

Ehrlich said Gaga’s tribute will not open the show but will last six or seven minutes and cover “at least three or four” Bowie songs. The performance “is going to be a true homage to who David was, particularly musically, but not ignoring his influence on fashion and pop culture in a broader way,” Ehrlich added.

The Grammys take place in Los Angeles on February 15. A tribute to Bowie is also expected at The Brit Awards, though details of what this will involve are yet to be revealed.

Gaga recently said her time on American Horror Story has informed her new music, stating that focusing her energy on acting allowed her to approach music with added clarity.
