Bruce Dickinson says Iron Maiden fan Lady Gaga is ‘way better’ than Madonna

The singer had previously stated she would rather be compared to the heavy metal band than her pop peer

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has praised Lady Gaga, saying he much prefers her music to that of Madonna.

Gaga recently stated she would rather be compared to the heavy metal band than Madonna, adding that Iron Maiden are “one of the greatest rock bands in history”.

Speaking about these comments, Dickinson told Corus Radio: “I think she’s great, and I agree with her: she’s not the next Madonna; she’s way better than that.”

Arguing his viewpoint, Dickinson added: “First of all, she can sing — she’s got a belter of a voice — [and] she’s a really good instrumentalist. And, I mean, she’s got a great sense of drama. And anybody that could turn up to an awards ceremony dressed as a bacon sandwich gets my vote. I mean, she’s great.”

Iron Maiden released their 16th studio album ‘The Book of Souls’ earlier this month (September 4). It is the first album to be released following Dickinson’s recent cancerous tumour diagnosis.

Gaga recently told CR Fashion Book: “Some people really don’t know the importance of metal and the scope of it. [Iron Maiden] were filling stadiums, and they still are. And it’s because of the culture of the music, the poetry that’s so powerful, that whenever the fans come together, they unite in the essence of what Iron Maiden is all about. I always used to say to people, when they would say, ‘Oh, she’s the next Madonna.’ No, I’m the next Iron Maiden.”

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga recently appeared in the new trailer for American Horror Story: Hotel, in which she is shown dancing to German band Rammstein.

In what is her first major TV acting role, Gaga stars in the horror anthology’s fifth season as Elizabeth, aka The Countess, the owner of the hotel at the heart of the dark drama.

The show’s co-creator Ryan Murphy recently said of Gaga’s character: “She owns the hotel and she is sort of a very wealthy social doyenne who is consumed with art and fashion and people. She has a nefarious plan that is revealed in the first episode that plays out over the course of the season.”
