Lana Del Rey becomes executive producer on ‘psychedelic’ Daniel Johnston film

Del Rey pledged $10,000 on Kickstarter to 'Hi, How Are You: A Short Film Starring Daniel Johnston'

Lana Del Rey has been named as an executive producer on a forthcoming film starring Daniel Johnston.

The ‘Born To Die’ vocalist has given $10,000 (£6,190) to a Kickstarter appeal to fund post-production on Hi, How Are You: A Short Film Starring Daniel Johnston, Gabriel Sunday’s “psychedelic” movie about the cult singer-songwriter. In doing so, Del Rey has become an executive producer on the project, as has rapper Mac Miller, reports The Line Of Best Fit.

The film has already reached its $35,000 target on Kickstarter. The project’s page says of the film about Johnston: “It’s a musical tale of an aging artist encountering psychedelic dreams, nightmares, and characters from his past. We began shooting with a simple outline: an intimate interview between Daniel and his younger self addressing his most prolific and maddening era. Our hope was to bring his stories, memories and art to life.”

Meanwhile, Lana Del Rey recently posted a new teaser video for her Tropico film, adding that it is “coming soon”. In the 13-second long trailer, Del Rey prays and asks to be forgiven for her sins before a cowboy type figure appears.

This autumn Del Rey told Nylon about her struggle with writing the follow-up to her debut album, 2012’s ‘Born To Die’. The singer-songwriter has said “I don’t really hear” a second album. Speaking about working on her new LP, she commented: “When people ask me about it, I just have to be honest – I really don’t know… I don’t want to say, ‘Yeah, definitely – the next one’s better than this one,’ because I don’t really hear a next one. My muse is very fickle. She only comes to me sometimes, which is annoying.”
