Del Rey performed ‘Blue Jeans’ on the BBC1 reality show on Sunday (April 29) and immediately provoked a strong reaction across all social media.
Stephen Fitzpatrick hailed her rendition of ‘Blue Jeans’, saying: “I think the fact that she makes no effort to act ridiculous on stage is a good thing, do we really need another Gaga? Her performance is a lot more about vocal talent and I think it’s a breath of fresh air.”
Rhiannon Douglas felt the same, she wrote: “I think it was brilliant and pure. She’s constantly slated by the media whenever she does a live show but I thought it sounded great.” Clare Harrison also wrote in support of Del Rey, she added: “Amazing, this is a really unique song plus she is beautiful.”
Anthony Mulryan hated it, simply writing “Bag of shite”, as did Sarah Netienne, who wrote: “Cat meowing sounds better than that to me.”
Michael Bassett also criticised Del Rey’s performance, he wrote: “They should start production on her VH1 ‘Where Are They Now?’ episode. She’s headed straight for the used bin at the record store”, Adi Keefe also hammered Del Rey, writing: “That was shite. Go on a Kate Bush Masterclass on how to hit those notes live. Utter shite.”
