The American just pips to Daft Punk to claim pole position...

LEANN RIMES has knocked A1 off the top of the charts with her single ‘CAN’T FIGHT THE MOONLIGHT’, one of five new entries in the UK Top 10 yesterday (November 19).

Boyband a1 plummeted to Number Eight with ‘Same Old Brand New You’, as Daft Punk stormed into the Number Two position with their single ‘One More Time’. Other new entries were ‘Please Don’t Turn Me On’ by Artful Dodger featuring Lifford at Number Four, Darude’s ‘Feel The Beat’ and Wu-Tang Clan at Number Six with ‘Gravel Pit’.

Toploader narrowly missed making the Top 10 with ‘Dancing In The Moonlight’, while other new Top 20 singles included Savage Garden with ‘Hold Me’, 666’s ‘D.E.V.I.L.’ and Lucy Pearl’s ‘Don’t Mess With My Man’.

Mercury Prize-winner Badly Drawn Boy’s re-released ‘Once Around The Block’ entered the chart at Number 27.

As predicted, The Beatles’ compilation ‘1’ trounced former top spot incumbents Westlife in the album charts by going straight in at Number One. Oasis’ live album ‘Familiar To Millions’ went in at Number Five, two places above Elton John’s live outing ‘One Night Only’.

Other new entries in the Top 30 albums include The Offspring’s ‘Conspiracy Of One’ (Number 12), Sade at 18 with ‘Lovers Rock’ and Marilyn Manson at 23 with ‘Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)’.
