Simon Cowell’s Helping Haiti charity single breaks UK singles chart record

All-star charity cover of REM's 'Everybody Hurts' tops UK charts

Simon Cowell‘s charity single has gone straight to the top of the UK singles chart tonight (February 14).

‘Everybody Hurts’ sold over 453,000 copies to make it the fastest-selling charity single of the century so far, according to figures from the Official Charts Company.

Featuring performances from, Leona Lewis, Take That, Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole, Susan Boyle and Rod Stewart, the R.E.M cover is raising money for the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) and The Sun’s Helping Haiti appeal.

Elsewhere in the UK singles charts, the TV programme Glee continues to make an impact, with the cast’s double A-side of ‘Halo’/‘Walking On Sunshine’ going straight in at Number Nine, while previous release ‘Don’t Stop Believin’‘ is at Number Five.

Massive Attack score a new entry at Number Six in the UK albums chart with their new release ‘Heligoland’, though Alicia Keys stays at Number One for a second week with ‘The Element Of Freedom’.
