London indie band Les Incompétents have announced their decision to split up.
The six-piece have decided to call it a day despite the fact lead singer Billy Bell is now on the road to a full recovery following a street attack in June.
According to the band, they planned the split even before their frontman was attacked, blaming musical differences on their parting.
Writing on their Myspace page, the band wrote: “The rumours are true…the six of us ARE no longer going to be playing together. Les Incompéntents as Les Incompétents will cease to exist.
“You might be wondering why, on the cusp of an album, TV performances and other good stuff; we decided to kill the dream. Basically we realised that a time must come in every man’s life when he must decide between what is easy and what is right.
“And by the end of the tour we just realised that there were too many ideas between the six of us to try and hone in to one thing. Meaning that whatever we ended up producing, certain people would be unhappy.”
Les Incompétents were due to play the Wireless festival before Billy was attacked in Camden and they were hoping to peform a series of goodbye shows.
However due to the singer’s current state, the band have decided to shelve the gigs.
As previously reported on NME.COM, Bell was involved in an argument on the Number 29 bus in Camden on June 22. After leaving the bus, Bell was apparently followed and then punched, causing him to strike his head on the pavement as he fell.
The singer underwent a successful five-hour operation to decrease pressure on his brain, but he was unconscious for several weeks.
Commenting on his current state the band added: “Billy‘s making a full recovery. He’s now out of hospital and at home, and is generally recuperating.”
Despite the split, members of Les Incompétents are preparing to form separate bands.
