Actor Sacha Baron Cohen has discussed being influenced by Liam Gallagher for his latest film role in Grimsby, revealing that he once got into a disagreement with the former Oasis frontman that ended with Gallagher threatening to “stab him in the eye”.
The man behind Borat and Ali G talked about the physical similarities between his character Nobby and the Oasis star on US late-night show Conan.
“I have had the pleasure [of meeting Liam Gallagher], actually,” Cohen said, before telling a story of the pair meeting at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards in 2012.
Cohen revealed that he angered Gallagher by not telling a joke about the singer that he had planned for his acceptance speech, an omission that angered Gallagher.
Gallagher allegedly told Cohen that he was “going to stab you in the eye”. Cohen told Conan O’Brien of the incident: “I’ve never heard such a specific threat… Eventually he didn’t stab me but I thought to avoid confrontation by having my hair done like him in my next movie”.
