Rapper to start sentence once he completes current jail term
Lil Wayne has been sentenced to three years’ probation following a drugs possession charge.
The rapper, real name Dwayne Carter, is already serving a one-year jail sentence on an unrelated gun charge, but will start his Arizona probation once he is released from prison.
The judgement comes after the 30-year-old was arrested when police found four ounces of marijuana, an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of ecstasy and a 40-calibre pistol registered to the musician on board his tour bus at a US Border Patrol checkpoint in the state in 2008.
Wayne‘s guilty plea of one count of possession of a dangerous drug led to the remaining three drug and weapons charges being dismissed, reports Reuters.
James Tilson, Wayne‘s Arizona attorney, said: “We’re quite glad that we were able to wrap everything up. It’s a favourable plea agreement that will allow Mr Carter to pursue his career.”
