Apparently the returning star will sing a version of 'Somewhere Only We Know' on the department store's Christmas campaign commercial
Music Week reports that the department store has enlisted the singer for their commercial and that though a version of the Keane track has been recorded, “other alternatives have been considered.” Listen to the original version of the Keane song by scrolling down – this version of the track will feature on ‘The Best of Keane’, which is set for release on November 11.
John Lewis’ yearly festive advert has previously featured female vocalists covering classic tracks, with Ellie Goulding taking on Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, Amelia Warner doing the same for The Smiths‘ ‘Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want’ and Gabrielle Aplin recording Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s ‘Power Of Love’. All of the tracks charted highly following their inclusion on the seasonal adverts.
Music Week reports that both PJ Harvey and Annie Lennox were also approached and considered by the brand to provide the music for their new ad, which will premiere later this month or at the start of November.
Meanwhile, Lily Allen has revealed that her new album, set for release next year, has some “feminist vibes coming on”. In an interview with Hello, Allen spoke about the progress of the album and what fans can expect. “It’s not an earnest ‘I’m a mum’ kind of record,” she said. “It’s empowering. There’s some feminist vibes going on. It’s the same old me with a bit of swearing going on. Good choruses, key changes here and there – that’s it!”
Allen also said she was nervous about returning to the spotlight after her long absence from the music industry, stating: “I’m really nervous because I haven’t been on stage for a really long time. I’m actually really scared. The music thing is great – creating is what I do. But being catapulted back into the limelight is something I’m anxious about, mainly because I’ve got two children now. It’s not just me – I’ve got family to think about.”
