Lily Allen: ‘I could have died like Amy Winehouse’

The pregnant pop singer recalls dangerous nights out with her late friend

Lily Allen has revealed that she could have died like her friend Amy Winehouse, who passed away on July 23 at age 27.

Speaking yesterday, the pregnant pop star, who was born two years after Winehouse, said that she had been out on benders with the late jazz singer that could have been potentially dangerous, reports The Sun. She explained:

I’ve had nights out with Amy and know exactly what used to go on. It’s so easy to get caught up in that madness… I’ve been strong enough to walk away.

She added that her own friends thought that the same might have happened to her too, saying: “When Amy died, I got several texts from friends saying they were really glad I was still here, that I hadn’t died too.”

Suggestions that Amy Winehouse died of a drug overdose have been formally ruled out after results from the singer’s toxicology report found “no illegal substances” in her system.

The report does say that alcohol was present, but stresses that “it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death”. A full inquest into Winehouse‘s death is still ongoing and will be concluded in October.
