Lily Allen gets political in LA

Singer speaks out against President George W Bush

Lily Allen got political at her sold-out show at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles last night (April 2), giving the middle finger to former US President George W Bush.

The sassy singer, dressed in silver-sequined shorts and a black bustier, spoke out against Bush when introducing her song ‘F**k You’.

“This song is about George W Bush, who by the way I’m quite happy isn’t president anymore,” she said before launching into the tune, which got nearly the entire audience holding their middle fingers in the air during the chorus, “Fuck you very much.”

Allen and the crowd were bathed in red, white and blue lights during the flashy number.

Pulling her best sexy moves throughout the night, Allen ran through several tracks from her new album, ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’, including ‘Everyone’s At It’ and ’22’, backed by an all-male four-piece band. She also performed a handful of crowd-pleasers from her debut album, including ‘Smile’ and ‘LDN’.

At one point, Allen told her mother, who was in the audience, to raise her hand. “Who put you all the way up there?” she asked when she spotted her in the balcony. Allen traded in her stiletto heels for trainers midway through the set, saying, “No one appreciates Jordans like Los Angeles.”

Seattle dance-rock quintet Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head kicked off the night, with an energetic and playful set that got the already-packed house dancing.
