Australian police officers under investigation after Lily Allen Instagram prank goes wrong

Singer pretended she was being arrested by officers at the Gold Coast Airport in Queensland

A group of police officers in Australia are under investigation after helping Lily Allen post a joke picture on Instagram.

The picture, which can be seen above, was taken as Allen was escorted through the Gold Coast Airport in Queensland on Sunday (July 27) and shows the singer with her hands behind her back in handcuffs. The image gained over 7,000 likes before it was removed from the image-sharing website.

However, a spokesperson for the federal police has confirmed that the officers who posed in the picture with Allen are now under investigation.

“At her request, the members involved placed open handcuffs on Allen for a photo opportunity,” The Guardian quotes the spokesperson as saying, “It appears the members involved were caught up in the moment and standard protocols were breached.”

Gold Coast City Councillor Dawn Crichlow has also been critical of the police, telling Fairfax Radio that she does not “appreciate a photo of… police playing around with their handcuffs. It’s bad that the federal police allowed this to happen and they should be hauled over the coals. Just a bit of fun would have been to give her the police cap and have a photo taken like that.”

Lily Allen was in Australia to perform at the Spledour In The Grass festival.
