Lily Allen and Evan Dando contribute to new charity album

'Tarka and Friends: Life' is a tribute to the late singer-songwriter Tarka Cordell

Lily Allen and Evan Dando have both contributed to ‘Tarka and Friends: Life’, a charity tribute album to the late singer-songwriter Tarka Cordell.

Cordell, whose brother Milo was once a member of The Big Pink, committed suicide in 2008. Both Allen and Dando have recorded covers of Cordell originals for the compilation, which will raise money for suicide charity CALM, the campaign against living miserably, and The Jeevika Trust, which tackles the roots of poverty in India.

Once mentored by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, Cordell released his first and only album ‘Wide Awake in a Dream’ in 2004. Evan Dando performs ‘Lovely New York’, a song which Tarka had written with him in mind, while Lily Allen teams up with Louis Eliot (Kinky Machine/Rialto) for her version of ‘Shelter You’.

Other artists who have contributed to the release of the album, which is released on February 10, include Ruby Friedman and Scoundrels & Dirty Gentlemen plus Alice Temple.

Meanwhile, Lily Allen has held off competition from Avicii and Leona Lewis to secure the Official UK Singles Chart top spot for a third week. Her track, a cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ which has been used in the John Lewis Christmas advert, returned to the top spot last week and has been unmoved this week despite late competition.
