Pallett, who has played live with Arcade Fire numerous times, has also composed string arrangements for the likes of Last Shadow Puppets, Beirut, Snow Patrol, Duran Duran and R.E.M and records solo under the name Final Fantasy.
Speaking to NME, the band’s co-frontman Mike Shinoda revealed that drummer Rob Bourdon was the one who got in contact with Pallett, but that the whole band “love” what he did with their track.
Asked about working with Pallett, Shinoda replied: “He worked on one song. We tried a second one, but he got busy with something else, so I actually ended up doing the strings on my own. He did the strings on ‘I’ll Be Gone’. I’ve not met him in person though, I think he may have met our drummer Rob, those two were emailing back and forth. I really love what he did with the song and what he did with Arcade Fire is just sensational.”
The singer also spoke about why they opted to work with producer Rick Rubin once again, who he described as “a great fit”.
He said of this: “We considered other producers, but not for long. Rick is a good fit for us in a number of different ways. He’s so experienced in so many genres, he refers so many different types of music. Our tastes line up really well, so he’s a great fit for us.”
