Dave Grohl, Rihanna, Florence Welch to play at Lionel Richie tribute concert

The event will take place in Los Angeles during February

The likes of Rihanna, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Florence And The Machine‘s Florence Welch will perform live at a Lionel Richie tribute gig next month.

Richie will be honoured at the 2016 MusiCares Person of the Year event, with the star-studded line-up also including the likes of Ellie Goulding, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Leon Bridges and more, as reported by Billboard.

The event will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and takes place in Los Angeles on February 13.

2015 saw Richie score his first UK Number One album in 23 years following a triumphant Glastonbury Festival performance.

Greatest hits album ‘The Definitive Collection’ by Lionel Richie & The Commodores was originally released in 2003 and reached the top spot in July.

The legendary singer drew the biggest crowd of last year’s festival during his Sunday afternoon Pyramid Stage performance.

Richie performed in the crowd-pleasing ‘Legends’ slot reserved for veteran artists, occupied in previous years by Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Paul Simon and Shirley Bassey.

Lionel Richie spoke to NME following his Glastonbury set, describing it as “a perfect show”.
