Arctic Monkeys have released ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’, and it’s now streaming on Spotify.

The sixth record from the Sheffield icons sees them taking a surprise new direction, largely eschewing guitars for the twinkling ivories of Alex Turner’s piano.

NME’s official verdict hailed the album as “overwhelming”, but hailed their commitment to pursuing a new direction.

“At first it’s completely overwhelming – you’ll be trying to connect the scattered dots on this initially impenetrable listen, and maybe even despairing when it doesn’t all come together. But when the constellations show through, you’ll realise that it’s a product of searingly intelligent design”, our verdict stated.

Last night, the band also gave the record its TV debut on Fallon, performing ‘Four Out Of Five’.

Recently, Turner opened up on the record’s creation in an interview with BBC Radio 1, admitting that he was embarrassed by some of the band’s earlier lyrics.

“I think sometimes that can be helpful. In preparation for going on tour, we flicked through some of our old records,” he said.

“There were a few lyrics that went by where I thought [wincing noise], ‘Don’t know what you were thinking there. Probably leave that one out now.’
